Blues In The Schools aka BITS

Blues In The Schools (BITS) was conceived in 1978 by Chicago musician Billy Branch and his band, The Sons Of Blues. The program is an educational project for middle school children which teaches them all aspects of the Blues as an American art form including such topics as the history of the Blues, famous Blues musicians, different styles of Blues, and writing, singing and performing the Blues.

Today, Blues In The Schools is a nationally acclaimed cultural and musical educational program. This program was developed to suit the needs of students in a variety of settings from organizations to schools. Age appropriate content is formatted to deliver high quality learning experiences that meet the goals and fulfill the mission of Blues In The Schools. Many areas of culture and art are explored in a classroom setting where students actively participate in the creation of music and compose  Blues songs. Students can identify the cultural, geographical, historical origins and evolution of Blues music and the people who composed and played it while gaining an understanding of the Blues significance in modern music and popular culture.

Students are taught the discipline of the art and learn the interaction and teamwork
which creates self-esteem and self confidence.
Blues In The Schools continues today
and is presented across the United States and Canada with great success.
